Exhibition Dates:   25.05.2011 – 08.06.2010

MARC KOEHLER ARCHITECTS

OBJECTIVE

Organized by METU as a result of an increased demand, exhibition series called “Young Dutch Architects” is prepared to focus on modernist approaches of 5th generation Young Dutch Architects. Last decades have witnessed a developing sensibility of Dutch Architecture influenced by evolutionary techniques of computer based design. By being aware of the interest to understand the changing needs of society and ecology, the exhibition brings two young and qualified  architectural offices together, for presenting extreme details with diverse tendencies:

MARC KOEHLER ARCHITECTS – Domestic Landscapes, Habitational Design, Open Planning

Beyond representing works done by offices, this exhibition series aims to arouse awareness about Dutch Sensibility both on theoretical and practical level. Documentation of design processes and presentation of works done for various locations are collected for the interpretation of Dutch way of dealing with changing conditions by using technology. For the second part of the exhibition series, “Marc Koehler Architects” will be the guest architectural office with the concept “ Domestic Landscapes”. The invited office will share their vision about the dissolving of the notion of home, city and nature, as well as the changing relationship of the private and the public space. They will highlight two phenomena:

> Domestification of the public space: informal appropriation of pubic  spaces, such as streets, squares and parks, by temporary private uses and personal spontaneous activities, such us lunching, street vending, sports, work, meeting… But also for example the way in which new office spaces are transforming into playful personal environments.

> Urbanization of the house: private swimming-pool, home cinema, private gym, online shopping, home parties, work at home, kitchen in the garden…

The aim of the exhibition and the workshop is to analyze the relevance and appearance of these phenomena for Ankara with students. Students would research and define these concepts firstly themselves and find unique examples. Teachers will instigate that research in advance and produce a collective shared product, in the form of 2 collages. These collages will be revealed during the (opening) of the exhibition and it will end with the Marc Koehler’s lecture to establish the relation between the Dutch and Turkish situation. Record of this session on video and involve Turkish young architects to give their opinion about the topic, it is done in previous interviews that you can check on line
